“The Son of Man came eating and drinking and they say, ‘Look a glutton and a winebibber, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’.” (verse 19) What a stark difference between Christ’s perception of truth, holiness and purpose and that of organized religion of that day. By His own words He came to save, not to judge, “And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world” (John 12: 47). And that difference remains today between the gospel and those who establish a doctrine of their own, and proceed to judge the rest of the world on that basis. Jesus went straight to those who needed the gospel and was accused of all sorts of things that would discredit Him. And what is very interesting is that He said we would be accused of the very same thing if we follow the leading of the Holy Spirit. Further He didn’t say we MIGHT loose friends and family if we follow Him … He said we WOULD loose them.

By far the most common response given by those who do not attend church today when questioned about their spiritually is that they don’t go to church because those people are hypocrites, point their fingers and judge others. Sadly they would be right! For even though Christian church goers have good intentions they, for the most part, have lost the vision and purpose of Christ’s coming. If Christ didn’t come to judge, who gave His followers the responsibility too? There are over forty thousand different Christian denominations in the world and by the mere fact that they each have their own set of written doctrine and believe that they have an exclusive on truth, they broadcast that they judge and point their finger at others. It cannot be denied. The bottom line is that organized, denominational religion has done more to discredit the cause of Christ than any other element of society. And that picture is a reproduction of the one that existed when Christ was on earth. He didn’t judge sinners but He certainly did the self-righteous Pharisees of the day.

The TRUE believer of Christ exclusively follows the leading of the Holy Spirit and that cannot be compromised with man’s reasoning, rules or guidelines. The true believer must “come out from among them and be separate”.

Sing it o’er … And o’er again;
Christ receiveth sinful men;
Make the message clear and plain;
Christ receiveth sinful men… (Christ Receiveth Sinful Men)
