There are millions of professing Christians around the world and and a large majority of them do not believe in the power of prayer. It totally escapes them! Of the smaller number that do, there remains serious question; they say they do with their mouth because the Bible says so but doubt in their heart and question whether He will. Finally there are those (a small remnant) who believe, expect and count it as having been done. They know they have an enormous responsibility to intercede, stand in the gap and pray, pray, pray for those of less faith. Abraham was one of those when “he staggered not at the promise of God in unbelief”, a promise that was impossible in human eyes.

There are many examples in Scripture of the prayers of man changing the mind of God. Abraham “prayed unto God; and God healed Abimelech, and his wife, and his maidservants; and they bare children. For the Lord had fast closed up all the wombs of the house of Abimelech.” (Gen. 20;17) Job prayed for his friends. “My servant Job shall pray for you; for him will I accept. lest I deal with you after your folly.” (Job 42;8) Nineveh repented and “God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not”.(Jonah 3;10) God told Moses “Let me alone that I may destroy them.” but Moses changed His mind after praying for 40 days and 40 nights and the Lord “hearkened unto”him. (Deut. 9;18) God told Hezekiah that he was going to die but changed His mind after Hezekiah prayed. Then God said “I will add unto thy days fifteen years”.

All of these and many others had faith that was no passing fancy and did not change with the wind. They knew that God heard them and would answer and for the reason of strong faith they;
“subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens.” (Heb. 11;33-34)

But it must be pointed out that there is a cost to obtaining this power in prayer and that is you must give up everything else; that is where the mass of Christians are slack; in short, they are preoccupied with things of this world.

Pray, pray in the old time way,
Come Christian gather round,
Pray, pray as they used to pray,
When the pow’r of God came down.

Pray, pray the only way,
To reach the saints high ground.
Pray, pray the prayer of faith
Will bring God’s blessings down. (Pray, pray in the Old Time Way)
