The key verse reads, “You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on you”. Two questions stand out when contemplating this verse. What does it mean to be ‘stayed on you’ and what is ‘perfect peace’? For those who are focused on Him, who are continually aware of His presence, pray (as much as it is possible) without ceasing, purpose to listen to that small voice, worship Him in spirit and truth and reflect an attitude of godliness, there is PERFECT PEACE.

Our Lord came as the Prince of Peace ~ it should be no surprise that peace is what He offers to those who believe and follow Him. But beyond generic peace He offers PERFECT PEACE, perpetual peace in this life and the next, peace with God, peace with man, inward peace, outward peace, security, serenity, peace of conscience . . . all of which brings rest, purpose, joy and happiness. It’s what everyone wants but, alas, it’s not free and comes with a price. WE MUST BE STAYED ON HIM. And that means believe, trust, obey and commit our lives to Him by giving up our agenda in favor of His. For most the price is too high and they, consciously or unconsciously, have decided to trust in their own ability to succeed in life and make a difference in this world. But for the few, the remnant, that choose the narrow way, a way that defies human logic, there is PERFECT PEACE and the price is of little consequence as compared to the benefits.

Prince of Peace, control my will,
Bid this struggling heart be still;
Bid my fears and doubtings cease,
Hush my spirit into peace.

May Thy will, not mine, be done,
May Thy will and mine be one;
Chase these doubtings from my heart,
Now Thy perfect peace impart . . . (Prince of Peace, Control My Will)
