It is believed by most all that Adam and Eve ate of the fruit of the tree of “the knowledge of good and evil” and thus we find ourselves in the fallen state of man… which would be true. However, There is a misconception that this was a once done happening that will forever affect us in the following generations; the subtle implication being that it was Adam’s fault and we are the victims. But, that is not a totally accurate picture of the situation.

Every person that has ever been born of woman has taken his own way and eaten of that same tree… by his own choice. It is an ongoing deception that is almost completely unrecognized by man. I am not talking here only about unregenerate man; I’m not even talking about modern, liberal churches of our day. It is obvious in their case. I am talking about even the most conservative, fundamental and plain churches, perhaps more than others. One only has to take a closer look to see that many of the traditions they have practiced over the years have become Biblical principles in their minds. These later groups take the Bible, read it, study it and then proceed to apply its principles as THEY interpret them, all the time claiming that the Lord has led them to these conclusions and that their doctrine is true. But there are over 2000 Christian denominations world wide all claiming the same thing. We must ask ourselves if it is possible that this attitude of man, Christians, deciding what is right and wrong by the interpretation of our minds is what has harmed the gospel message to the world and is simply demonstration of taking our own way??

God “sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved”. He didn’t even condemn the woman caught in the act of adultery. He did, however, have very strong language for those who claimed they did have the correct doctrine and were the children of Abraham.

Jeremiah reminds us that “the way of man is not in himself; it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps”.(Jer. 10;23) When God created man He did not intend that man decide his own way but, rather, that He, God, would direct his path. The same applies today. Do you, Christian, think that you have the correct doctrine? Do you think that all who would disagree are wrong when the Bible says that, no one person has all the truth? By that, do you imply in any way, shape or form condemnation to others? I submit to you that this is the destructive force of nominal Christianity and has done great harm to the cause of Christ!

Note; This in no way implies that there are not good Christian principle that we should live by. But when we live those principles in a way that projects condemnation, we must be careful.

In this world of toil and sorrow,
Many hearts are full of care;
Let us live to serve our master,
And each other’s burdens bear.

Kind and loving to each other,
Gentle words to all we meet-
Thus we follow Christ our Saviour,
Proving all His service sweet. (Love Each Other)
