I remember telling some of my children when they were young, “You can either learn this lesson the easy way or the hard way, but you will learn it”. That’s basically what the Lord is saying to the people of Isaiah’s day in the key passage. In verse 10 He says that He will teach them wisdom and truth “precept upon precept, line upon line, here a little and there a little” which would represent the easy way, the way of rest and refreshing (verse 12). Or they could learn it the hard way and be taken over by a people from another country who spoke a different language… which is what they chose for they ‘would not hear’ . It’s no different today! We in this country and in the nominal Christian community have chosen the hard way by ignoring the principles of faith and indulged in prideful and pleasure seeking ways. In essence we say that we believe with the mouth while we live otherwise and it will cause us to have to endure the very, very hard way. We are at the doorstep of social, economic and political disaster and it behooves every true believer to prepare for what is ahead.

It is imperative that we continue to seek the Lord, line by line, precept upon precept, day by day and hour by hour, for the promise is that if we do, we will find Him and he will protect us as He has His own people throughout history. So, what will it be, the easy way or the hard way?

Take time to be holy,
Speak oft with thy Lord;
Abide in Him always,
And feed on His word.

Make friends of God’s children,
Help those who are weak;
Forgetting in nothing,
His blessing to seek…(Take Time to Be Holy)
