Mark Twain once said, “The two most important days of a persons life are the day he was born and the day he figures out why!” Well, Christians, at least true Christians, are not confused about that and are optimistic. They have purpose and joy and are just waiting to see what the Lord will do next.

John Knox knew the power of God and the purpose for which he was born. He prayed and the results caused Queen Mary to say that she feared the prayers of John Knox more than she feared all the armies of Scotland. It was said of Spurgeon that he healed more sick by his prayers than the doctors of England. Martin Luther prayed and changed the course of religious history. John Wesley prayed, and revival came to England, sparing that nation the horrors of the French Revolution. John Newton has continued to witness to millions for the last 300 years through his hymn “Amazing Grace”. George Meuller prayed and was able to care for thousands of orphans at a time that it was so desperately needed in Europe. Jonathan Edwards prayed, and revival spread throughout the American colonies.

History has been changed time after time because of prayers of the ‘sons of light’. Even when times are bleak and the world scorns God, He still works through the prayers of His people and it’s not just through great preachers, it’s through the common man. All of these men were just common folks until they committed themselves to service and prayer. PRAY! Perhaps it’s the reason you are here.

“Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day; We are not of the night , nor of darkness.
Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.”

Walk in the light! Thy path shall be
Peaceful, serene and bright;
For God, by grace shall dwell in thee,
And God Himself is light…(Walk in the Light)
