“If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask.”

It is interesting that not one of of the disciples with the possible exception of Mary of Bethany ever asked for an infilling of the Holy spirit prior to the resurrection. Mary alone seemed to understand and was aware of Christ’s repeated declaration concerning His own death and resurrection. In those early days it was a new and staggering thing to a Jew that, all might receive the Spirit, understandably so. But what about today? It comes as no shock that the Holy Spirit is available for all those who believe and yet how many among Christians can, without hesitation, say that they are led by Him through the spirit. Or, if asked what the Lord has told them lately, who would not be at a loss for words. Jesus said, “My sheep know my voice.” If each of us cannot say for positive, that we hear His voice and are led by the Spirit, are we, then, His children?

What has the Lord spoken to you today? The leading of His Spirit is available to all, we must only ask and believe!

Come, gracious Spirit, heav’nly dove,
With light and comfort from above;
Be thou our guardian, Thou our guide,
O’re every thought and step preside,
O’re every thought and step preside.

The light of truth to us display,
And make us know and choose Thy way;
Plant holy fear in every heart,
That we from God may ne’er depart,
That we from God may ne’er depart.
